HOW MANY WISHES DO YOU GRANT ANNUALLY?
Since our inception as a local chapter in 1985, over 1030 wishes have been fulfilled. We expect to grant between 60-80 annually over the next several years.
WHERE DO YOU GRANT WISHES?
The Central New York chapter serves a 15-county area including Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, St. Lawrence, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.
HOW MUCH DOES A WISH COST?
Although the costs vary, the average cost of one wish is $6,000.
HOW DO YOU SELECT THE WISH CHILDREN?
Make-A-Wish Foundation® will consider the wish of any medically eligible
child, as determined by the primary physician. The Foundation never solicits wishes from
wish families. A child may be referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® by
anyone...family, friends, medical personnel, teachers, clergy or even the wish child.
HOW ARE WISHES FUNDED?
The costs associated with providing a wish are paid for by various fund raising events
and activities, in-kind gifts and services, financial contributions from individuals and
corporations, special events and volunteer services. Make-A-Wish Foundation®
of Central New York has received enormous community support through special projects,
service clubs, funraisers and private contributions. Make-A-Wish Foundation
® does not participate in telephone or door-to-door solicitation. As with
all Make-A-Wish® chapters, we are completely responsible for financing the
wishes fulfilled by our chapter.
WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE MONEY RECEIVED GOES TO THE CHILDREN?
We are proud to report that the 2006-2007 unaudited figures reflect that 83% of our revenue went directly to program services.
HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE?
Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central New York is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization. In order for the Make-A-Wish Foundation® to continue granting the favorite wishes of very special children, donations are needed. Individuals, companies, corporations, clubs, and other groups donate cash and in-kind goods and services.
The chapter accepts donations using cash, personal or corporate checks, and credit cards including Discover, MasterCard, VISA, and American Express. In-kind items such as office supplies, new boxed or unwrapped toys for kids, specific wish related items, data entry and bookkeeping services, etc. are always needed. Donations may be sent or delivered to our office at the address below. Cash and credit card donations may also be securely processed online at the corporate offices of Make-A-Wish®.
All donations are tax deductible as permitted by law.
